Will...Undisclosed!

We took a little trip out East to an undisclosed location to check out the undisclosed location for an undisclosed mission. It was a quick trip, out and back but it felt good to get out of Blackhorse. Give me a few weeks and I'm sure I'll be saying that it felt good to be back at Blackhorse:)

We stopped to stretch our legs and I practiced my Dari while I checked out a soldier's brand new RPG. Love you!

We ate lunch yesterday at a lake-side Chateau which, we were told, was owned by the Afghan King prior to the Soviet Invasion. Probably built in the 60s and for its day was high class by anyone's standards. Its still in pretty good shape considering that it has sat vacant for thirty years. It features several rooms with all the modern conveniences of the late 1960's. The great room has a large fireplace and a bar and overlooks the lake. Stairs lead down to a tile-set patio that has stairs right down into the lake and a LARGE boat dock. There is a bar on the patio as well. Private outdoor shower stalls provide a way to clean off after a swim in the lake and a fire pit to gather around and warm up. (Will should sell real estate! "House Hunters goes to Afghanistan...after these messages!")

It was kind of depressing to see how much the country has regressed through thirty years of war. There is nothing like this left anywhere in this country. Its all been blown up. Kabul is beginning to be rebuilt and once the country is secure, it has great potential! Afghanistan has rich mineral wealth, oil and natural gas too. There is plenty of money to be made to rebuild the country but it will take several years. Our grandkids might see a prosperous Afghanistan just as we see a prosperous South Korea today (it was blown up and burned down sixty years ago...now look at it!).
